Today, I bought a PC. I called HP, Gateway, and Dell. I ended up going with Gateway. I told mom, and she was like, "oohh..." something about Gateway
going bankrupt or not doing well or something...
Anyway, my notebook pc has a celeron processor, 512 mb RAM, and a 40 GB harddrive...along with 4 usb ports and a 4-in-1 card reader along with XP Pro.
I am truly hoping I did not make a monumental mistake...any comforting advise is greatly needed/appreciated...does anyone have a gateway? *troubled face*
Katie

Hehe, sorry, can't help you, I've heard horrible stories about Gateway. I know that Circuit City had a computer basically with the same things you described (a laptop) from, I think Emachines for $499 which seemed like a great price. I went with a Tosheeba when I bought a laptop a few weeks ago for $1200 but that's top of the line processor, display etc .. I needed the processor for running progrtamming applications.
But, yeah, hopefully it'll work fine, they can't be that bad.
cheers

I've always had gateway computers when it comes to laptops and they're all good, most of my family actually gets gateway laptops actually, the rumors about them beign in trouble have been around for the last 10 years but they're doing very well for a company that's in trouble. You'll be in good shape. I'd buy from them again any time. Most of what you see in stores anyway is cheap and you get what you pay for in the laptop world. you buy al ow end computer you['ll get low end quality and support.

I've had a gateway laptop for a few months now. It's a new 2005 one, and it has wireless internet. From what you describe, it has the same features (in terms of memory capacity,) but I think I have 60G instead of 40. I have Microsoft XP home edition, with Jaws 6.0. I also have Nortin internet security, and Add-aware.

I couldn't be more pleased with gateway; the laptop is a thin and portable as laptop's come. I once had an IBM thinkpad and it was twice the thickness of this laptop. Also, the wireless internet works fine, and I've never had any viruses or spyware. I got it at bestbuy.

The only possible complaint, is that If windows pops up with an on-screen mesage or alert, such as "low battery," "Wireless internet is connected," or any other reminder, it is displayed as a balloon style message on the task bar, and it pops up with a sound that I can hear. If you use jaws, jaws will not always read these messages to you, because once jaws reads them he won't do it again. But, If you leave the laptop idol and a message pops up, jaws automatically reads it.

Otherwise, gateway is great.
